Giron Searching For Form In Hamburg
Marcos Giron enters Hamburg as a lucky loser after falling in the second round of qualifying to outside-top-400 player Max Schoenhaus in three tight sets. Earlier in qualifying, he defeated Sumit Nagal in the opening round.
The American has struggled badly on tour since the end of the Australian swing, where he enjoyed strong runs by reaching the semifinals in both Hong Kong and Auckland.
Since then, Giron has played seven tournaments and won only two matches combined, suffering five opening-round exits during that stretch. He is currently on a four-match losing streak at tour level and has not won a main-draw match since Indian Wells, although he did reach a couple of Challenger quarterfinals.
Last year, Giron made his Hamburg debut but lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets. This time, he arrives at the event carrying even poorer form and confidence.

Shelton Searching For Momentum Before Roland Garros
Ben Shelton is coming off back-to-back opening-round exits in Madrid and Rome, with both defeats coming against players ranked outside the top 80. He lost in three sets on both occasions.
The American suffered a shoulder injury during the US Open last season, and there has been a noticeable decline in his performances since then toward the end of 2025.
However, Shelton started the 2026 season strongly by reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and winning the title in Dallas.
Since then, he has played six tournaments, and apart from his title-winning campaign in Munich, the other five events ended without multiple wins, highlighting his recent inconsistency.
Shelton now heads into Hamburg looking to regain momentum before defending fourth-round points at Roland Garros next week. This will also mark his debut appearance at the tournament.
