The PGA Tour returns to Mexico, with the players vying for the title at Vindata Vallarta this weekend. Can anyone stop Jon Rahm from retaining his title?

Rahm returns to defend his title after a one-shot victory over Tony Finau, Kurt Kitayama and Brandon Wu in 2022

Past and present major winners that will tee off on Thursday include current Masters champion Rahm, Geoff Ogilvy, Lucas Glover, Francesco Molinari, Jimmy Walker and Gary Woodland.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm has been the form player on the PGA Tour thus far, capturing numerous titles and reclaiming the number one spot in the world golf rankings.

Rahm had the perfect beginning to his year by placing T4 at the CJ Cup, T8 at the Hero World Challenge, victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, victory at the American Express, T7 at the Farmers Insurance Open, 3rd at the Phoenix Open and victory at the Genesis Invitational.

The 28-year-old's subsequent three starts were average, finishing T39 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, W/D at the Players Championship, T31 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play before regaining his touch by winning the Masters and placing T15 at the RBC Heritage.

The Spaniard won the inaugural Mexico Open in 2022.

Rahm has been in tremendous form and looks unstoppable in winning back-to-back titles in this type of field.

Wyndham Clark

Wyndham Clark has found some form and has been threatening to win his maiden PGA Tour title lately.

Clark was in contention to capture the Valspar Championship and Corales Puntacana Championship, placing 5th and 6th in each instance before finishing T29 at the RBC Heritage and 3rd at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last weekend.

Before that, the 29-year-old American had featured in 13 tournaments on the PGA Tour since the start of the new season, with his best results being T16 at the ZOZO Championship, T16 at the Houston Open, T10 at the RSM Classic, T10 at the Phoenix Open and T27 at the Players Championship.

He finished T67 on debut at this event last year.

Clark has three top-10 places in his last four starts and will be challenging for victory in Mexico come Sunday.

Nicolai Hojgaard

Nicolai Hojgaard has accomplished top results in 2023 and offers excellent value at Vindata Vallarta.

Hojgaard had a mediocre beginning to his season on the DP World Tour by finishing T57 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship before bouncing back to his best by placing T10 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, T10 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, T38 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T5 at the Thailand Classic and T32 at the Hero Indian Open.

The 22-year-old travelled across the pond to compete on the PGA Tour in his subsequent three tournaments, finishing 2nd at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T28 at the Valero Texas Open, and T32 at the recent Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Hojgaard has the form to go all the way and win the title at the Mexico Open this weekend.

Ben Martin

After struggling for most of the 2022/23 PGA Tour season, Ben Martin has found consistency in his game.

Martin's first ten events saw him miss the cut on five occasions, with his best results being T49 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, T21 at the RSM Classic, and T32 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The 35-year-old American returned to form by placing T13 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T5 at the Honda Classic, T54 at the Players Championship, T45 at the Valspar Championship, T8 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T10 at the Valero Texas Open, and T41 ta the RBC Heritage before missing the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last weekend.

He missed the cut at the Mexico Open last year.

Martin has been achieving solid results and is the long-shot value bet at Vindata.

Verdict

Rahm has strong claims for the title in Mexico and looks set to win his fifth trophy of 2023.

Clark comes into this PGA Tour event in excellent form and could win his first tournament this weekend.

Hojgaard has been in great touch and offers value at Vindata Vallarta.

Martin has been playing well and can feature prominently this weekend.
