  • Preview, stats & form
Eighty of the world's best golfers pair up for the only team event on the PGA Tour this season, with the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the line. Which team will lift the trophy come Sunday?

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are back to defend their title after victory in 2022.

Past and present major winners in the field include Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Geoff Ogilvy, and Jimmy Walker.

These are our team selections that could win the title this weekend.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele

Patrick Cantlay has achieved excellent results on the PGA Tour this season, placing T2 at the Shriners Children's Open, T16 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, 3rd at the Genisis Invitational, T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T19 at the Players Championship, T9 at the recent WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T14 at the Masters and T3 RBC Heritage in nine tournaments.

Xander Schauffele has been equally impressive on the PGA Tour by placing T9 at the ZOZO Championship, 4th at the Hero World Challenge, T3 at American Express, T13 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T10 at the WM Phoenix Open, T19 at the Players Championship, T5 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T10 at the Masters and T4 at the RBC Heritage in 11 starts.

The world's number four and five-ranked golfers teamed up last year to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Collin Morikawa and Max Homa

Collin Morikawa has featured 13 times on PGA Tour this season, with his best results being T15 at the World Wide Technology Championship, 6th at the Hero World Challenge, 2nd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, 3rd at the Farmers Insurance Open, T6 at the Genesis Invitational, T13 at the Players Championship and T10 at the Masters.

The 13th world-ranked golfer finished T29 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2022.

Max Homa has been a two-time winner on the PGA Tour this season and has achieved other top results.

Homa began by defending his title at the Fortinet Championship before placing T20 at the Shriners Children's Open, T23 at the ZOZO Championship, 17th at the Hero World Challenge, T3 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and then winning the Farmers Insurance Open.

The 32-year-old maintained his level of play in his subsequent seven tournaments by finishing 2nd at the Genesis Invitational, T14 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T6 at the Players Championship and T9 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play.

The seventh-world-ranked golfer placed T21 at this event last year.

Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim

Si Woo Kim had an excellent beginning to his new season on the PGA Tour by placing T8 at the Shriners Children's Open, victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T22 at the American Express, T25 at the Farmers Insurance Open and T23 at the WM Phoenix Open in eight events.

His subsequent seven starts have been decent, with his best results being T27 at the Players Championship, T17 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and T29 at the Masters.

The 27-year-old has featured once at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, finishing T64 in 2016.

Tom Kim was in tremendous form at the start of the 2022/23 PGA Tour season, winning the Shriners Children's Open, and placing T25 at the ZOZO Championship, T11 at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, T10 at the Hero World Challenge, T5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, MC at the Sony Open in Hawaii and T6 at the American Express.

The 20-year-old's form has dipped since those performances on the golf course, with his best results being T34 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T31 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and T16 at the Masters in seven starts.

The Korean makes his first appearance at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Sahith Theegala and Justin Suh

Sahith Theegala has had a busy schedule in 2023, achieving top results along the way by placing T6 at the Fortinet Championship, T5 at the ZOZO Championship, T2 at the RSM Classic, T4 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T6 at the Genesis Invitational, T14 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 9th at the Masters and T5 at the RBC Heritage in 15 appearances on the PGA Tour this season.

The 25-year-old American missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last year.

Justin Suh struggled with his form on the PGA Tour at the start of the season, with results of MC, MC, MC, T29, T48, T47, 66th, T41, and T54 before regaining his touch by placing T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T40 at the Genesis Invitational, T5 at the Honda Classic, T24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T6 at the Players Championship.

His subsequent three starts have been average, finishing T45 at the Valspar Championship, T31 WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and 73rd at the RBC Heritage.

The former world number one amateur makes his debut at this tournament this weekend.

The Format

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is played over four days, comprising 80 teams of two.

The cut is the top 33 teams plus ties after 36 holes.

Teams play fourball for rounds one and three, where the players each play their own ball for the duration of the round, with the best score on each hole recorded.

Teams play foursomes for rounds two and four, where players rotate tee shots (one player will tee off on even-numbered holes and the other on odd-numbered holes) and strokes.

Player A will tee off, with Player B taking the next shot etc., until the completion of the hole. The total strokes taken between the team will be the team's score for that hole.

Verdict

Cantlay and Schauffele are the team to beat and can make it back-to-back victories at TPC Louisiana.

Morikawa and Homa are in great touch and have the form to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim are a solid duo and will fancy their chances for glory in Louisiana.

Theegala and Suh have performed well this season and offer excellent value in New Orleans this weekend.
