Chicago Cubs Form

Chicago booked their postseason berth by finishing second in the NL Central standings with a 92-70 record.

The Cubs endured a rollercoaster run after securing their playoff berth in mid-September, but they did close out the regular season on a high.

They swept St Louis at home in their last series on the schedule, beating the Cardinals 12-1, 7-3 and 2-0.

Chicago then made it four wins in a row by beating San Diego 3-1 in the opening game of their Wild Card showdown with the Padres.

The Cubs failed to make it five-in-a-row and complete the sweep of San Diego as they dropped the second meeting 3-0, but they rallied on Thursday with a series-clinching 3-1 win.

Milwaukee Brewers Form

Milwaukee secured their place in the playoffs and a first-round bye by putting together a 87-65 record to finish top of the NL Central.

The Brewers have struggled for consistency over the past two months though, and they entered the postseason having won just three of their final nine regular season games.

This rough run started on the road as they kicked off a six-game strip by sandwiching a 3-2 win in St Louis with 7-1 and 5-1 defeats.

Milwaukee then moved on to San Diego where they lost 5-4 and 7-0 to the Padres, before rallying to take the finale 3-1.

The Brewers failed to follow that up as they lost the first two games of the home series with Cincinnati, 3-1 and 7-4, but they did avoid being swept by winning the final meeting 4-2.

Verdict

Milwaukee have won three of the last four meetings at home, and we are backing them to make it four in five.

The Brewers have been in solid form at American Family Field, and starter Aaron Ashby has been reliable when called upon this season.
