They then moved on to Miami where they lost 8-2 and 6-4, but they did avoid being swept in that series as they took the final meeting with the Marlins, 2-0.
Detroit have not won since though, having returned home to get swept by Cleveland in three games, losing 7-5, 4-0 and 3-1.
The Tigers then dropped all three meetings with Atlanta last week, suffering 10-1, 6-5 and 6-2 defeats at the hands of the Braves.

Cleveland enter this big series on the back of a loss, but having reignited their hopes of winning the division with 15 wins in their last 17 games.
The Guardians began this run in Tampa as they rebounded from a 4-2 loss to the Rays with 7-1, 3-2 and 2-1 victories to close out that series.
They then returned home to beat Kansas City 10-2 and 2-0, before responding to a 4-3 loss to the Royals with a 3-2 victory that sparked a 10-game tear.
Cleveland swept the Chicago White Sox with 4-0, 3-1 and 3-2 wins, and then went out on the road to roll over Detroit, winning 7-5, 4-0 and 3-1.
The Guardians took their streak to 10 games in Minnesota as they beat the Twins 6-2, 7-0 and 8-0, but they did miss out on the sweep as their run was ended by a 6-2 loss in the finale.
Verdict
Cleveland have been stacking up wins for several weeks, while Detroit have gone cold at the wrong time.
The Guardians have all of the momentum heading into this showdown, so there is plenty of appealing in taking them and the plus-money.
