Detroit Tigers Form

Detroit headed to New York on a disappointing run of form, having lost nine of their previous 13 games, but they have turned things around in the 'Big Apple'.

The Tigers enjoyed a five-game win streak in mid-August, only to then go cold as they then lost 10-8 to Kansas City and were swept in three games by the Athletics.

They ended that losing sequence with a 5-3 victory in Kansas, and then bounced back from a 3-1 defeat to the Royals by winning the final game of the series, 5-0.

Detroit failed to build on that at home though as they lost 10-8 and 12-5 to the New York Mets, before winning the series finale 6-2, and then then sandwiched a 6-0 win over the Chicago White Sox with 7-5 and 6-4 defeats.

The Tigers have rebounded well in New York though, following a 12-2 blowout of the Yankees with an 11-1 demolition of their hosts.

New York Yankees Form

New York entered this series as one of Major League Baseball's most in-form teams, with 11 wins in their previous 14 games, but they have gone stone cold against the Tigers.

The Yankees began their great run with a 7-2 win over Boston, which they followed up by sweeping Washington with 10-5, 5-1 and 11-2 victories.

They then beat the Chicago White Sox 10-4, 10-2 and 5-3, before rallying from a 3-2 defeat to the 'Windy City' club by sandwiching an 8-7 loss to Houston with 7-1 and 8-4 victories.

New York returned home and responded to a 7-1 defeat to Toronto with 3-1 and 4-3 wins over the Blue Jays, but they have been unable to build on that.

The Yankees have suffered back-to-back blowout defeats at the hands of Detroit, losing 12-2 and 11-1 to the Tigers.

Verdict

This has been an ugly series for the New York Yankees and their bullpen.

Detroit have lit up their hosts and have largely dominated them this season, so we are taking the Tigers and the plus-money here.
