Los Angeles enter this series still leading the NL West, but in poor form having now lost five of their last seven games.
The Dodgers went into the All-Star break on the back of a couple of losses, but bounced back when they returned to action, reeling off five consecutive wins.
They swept Boston at home courtesy of 4-1, 7-6 and 9-6 victories, and they beat San Francisco 3-2 and 5-2 before responding to an 8-3 defeat with a 6-4 win in the series finale.
Los Angeles failed to build on that though as they lost 5-0 and 7-6 in Houston, avoiding being swept with a 6-2 victory in the final meeting.
The Dodgers did not avoid that fate in San Diego though, as they were beaten 6-5 and 8-1 by the Padres.
Oakland Athletics Form
Oakland come into this series on the back of a loss, but having enjoyed a solid recent run with nine wins in 13 games.
The Athletics won their final game before the All-Star break, beating Philadelphia 13-3 on the road, and they made a wining return to action with 13-3 and 8-2 home wins over the Los Angeles Angels.
They dropped the last game of that series, 8-5, but responded with 4-0 and 8-2 successes against Houston, before missing out on a sweep due to an 8-1 loss.
Oakland rebounded immediately with 6-5, 5-4 and 3-1 wins at the Los Angeles Angels, but they again missed out on sweeping an opponent as they lost the final meeting 8-6.
The Athletics then moved on to San Francisco where they split the series with the Giants, winning 5-2 and losing 1-0.
Verdict
Los Angeles have had a knack for winning and covering against Oakland in recent season, so despite their recent struggles we are expecting more of the same here.
