Los Angeles entered the World Series having peaked at the perfect time, winning nine of their 10 postseason games.
The Dodgers went 93-69 during the regular season to finish atop the NL West standings, but that was not enough to earn them a postseason bye.
Instead they had to face Cincinnati in the Wild Card, but they made straightforward work of the Reds thanks to 10-5 and 8-4 wins.
Los Angeles then made a flying start to the series with Philadelphia, winning 5-3 and 4-3 on the road, before rebounding from an 8-2 home defeat with a series-clinching 2-1 win.
That set up a NL Championship Series meeting with Milwaukee, and the Dodgers were able to complete an emphatic sweep of the Brewers in four games.
They opened the series with 2-1 and 5-1 victories on the road, before returning home to wrap things up with 3-1 and 5-1 wins.
Toronto Blue Jays Form
Toronto came into the World Series having won seven of their 11 playoff games, setting up this showdown with the Dodgers.
The Blue Jays won the AL East with a 94-68 record, and that was enough to earn them a bye for the first round of the postseason.
When they did finally kick off their playoff campaign they reeled off back-to-back home victories over the New York Yankees, winning 10-1 and 13-7.
Toronto then rebounded from a 9-6 defeat in the ‘Big Apple’ with a 5-2 victory to clinch the series.
The Blue Jays dug themselves into an early hole in the AL Championship Series as they lost 3-1 and 10-3 at home to Seattle, but they rebounded to knot things up on the road with 13-4 and 8-2 wins.
They failed to keep that run going as they lost 6-2 in Game 5 to find themselves on the brink, but they responded to the adversity with 6-2 and 4-3 wins to clinch the series.
Verdict
Los Angeles' pitching finally faltered in Game 1, but we expect a strong response from the Dodgers and starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Yamamoto has been in dominant form in the postseason and enters this matchup on the back of his best performance to date, so we are backing LA to bounce back on the road.
