Miami went into last night’s series finale in Tampa having lost back-to-back games to see their form cool off.
The Marlins entered the All-Star break on the back of a 3-2 win in Cincinnati, and made a winning return to action too as they beat the New York Mets 6-4 at home.
They had to settle for a split of the series though, as they then sandwiched a 4-2 victory over the Mets with 1-0 and 6-4 defeats.
Miami fared better over their next two series, as they beat Baltimore 6-3 and 6-3 before losing 7-6, and then won 6-2 and 7-3 in Milwaukee before losing 6-2.
The Marlins made a wining start to the series in Tampa too, as they beat the Rays 6-2 in Tuesday’s clash.
Atlanta Braves Form
Atlanta entered the series finale in Milwaukee in improved form, having won three of their previous four games.
The Braves won either side of the All-Star break as they beat San Diego 6-3 and St Louis 3-2, but their form quickly nose-dived.
They lost 9-5 and 6-2 at home to St Louis, before dropping back-to-back meetings with Cincinnati, 4-1 and 9-4.
Atlanta’s skid continued in New York as they were beaten 3-2 and 8-4 by the Mets, but they did rally in the second half of that series as they won 4-0 and 9-2.
The Braves then responded to an 8-3 series-opening loss in Milwaukee with a 5-1 victory over the Brewers.
Verdict
Atlanta have stacked up a bunch of wins against Miami this season, and we expect that trend to continue here.
