Milwaukee head to the West Coast in decent form, having won 10 of their previous 18 games.
The Brewers stumbled at the start of the month as they lost 10-8 and 2-0 to Philadelphia either side of a 6-3 victory, but they rallied in Pittsburgh to sweep the Pirates, 5-2, 4-1 and 10-2.
They failed to build on that in Texas as they were swept by the Rangers, losing 5-0, 5-4 and 6-3, but they responded well as they returned home to beat St Louis 8-2 and 9-8.
Milwaukee missed out on the sweep, losing 3-2, but they bounced back immediately to sweep the Los Angeles Angels courtesy of 9-2, 9-2 and 5-2 victories.
The Brewers dropped two of the last three though, as they lost 7-1 and 5-1 to St Louis either side of a 3-2 victory.
San Diego Padres Form
San Diego enter this series having been in mixed form since the start of September, going 9-10 so far this month.
The Padres ended August with a 7-2 defeat in Minnesota, and that proved to be the start of a five-game skid as they lost 4-3, 6-2 and 7-5 to Baltimore, and 3-0 to the Rockies in Colorado.
They rallied to take the next two games, 10-8 and 8-1, and the beat Cincinnati 4-3 before dropping the next two meetings with the Reds, 4-2 and 2-1.
San Diego then won three of their four meetings with Colorado at home, beating the Rockies 2-0 before rebounding from a 4-2 defeat with 11-3 and 9-6 victories.
The Padres cooled in New York, sandwiching a 7-4 win over the Mets with 8-3 and 6-1 losses, but fare better in Chicago as they bounced back from a 4-3 loss to the White Sox with 7-3 and 3-2 wins.
Verdict
Both teams have been hit or miss recently, but Milwaukee do offer plenty of temptation in the underdog role.
