The Yankees rattled off seven straight wins in late August as they backed up a 7-3 victory over Boston with a series sweep of Washington and three wins over the Chicago White Sox.
That run was ended by a 3-2 defeat in the ‘Windy City’, but they rallied in Houston where they sandwiched an 8-7 defeat to the Astros with 7-1 and 8-4 wins.
New York then returned home and bounced back from a 7-1 loss to Toronto in the series opener with 3-1 and 4-3 victories.
The Yankees failed to keep that run going as they were blown out in back-to-back games by Detroit, losing 12-2 and 11-1, but they did stop the rot last night with a 9-3 win in the final game of the series.
Boston Red Sox Form
Boston return home on a mixed run of form, having won six and lost six in their previous 12 games.
The Red Sox enjoyed a highly successful road trip in late August as they won seven times in eight games, but they cooled off at home with 4-2 and 10-3 defeats to Pittsburgh.
They avoided being swept as they took the series finale 5-2, and they then backed that up with 6-4 and 11-7 wins over Cleveland, before dropping the last meeting 8-1.
Boston struggled to rebound from that loss as they went out on the road and lost 10-5 and 5-1 to Arizona, but they did take the last game of that series, 7-4.
The Red Sox then made it three straight wins with 7-0 and 6-0 victories at The Athletics, only to miss out on the sweep as they lost 5-4 in the last game of the series.

New York steadied the ship with last night’s win and they do have the more in-form pitcher here.
