New York then returned home for a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox, sweeping the visitors with 4-2, 6-1 and 7-2 victories.
The Yankees’ surge was finally ended by home defeats to Seattle, 5-4 and 6-3, but they turned things around before then end of that series, beating the Mariners 7-3 and 5-0.
San Diego Padres Form
San Diego return home looking to embark on a win streak after wrapping up the series in Cincinnati with a couple of victories.
The Padres enjoyed a good run of form through the early part of May, but have blown hot and cold since the 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 12.
They were swept at home by Colorado, losing 5-4, 6-3 and 8-0, only to then start a six-game road trip in impressive fashion.
San Diego travelled to Atlanta and reeled of three consecutive victories, beating the Braves 3-1, 9-1 and 6-5, but missed out on the series sweep as they dropped the final meeting 3-0.
The Padres were then beaten 2-0 in their series opener in Cincinnati, only to rebound with a 7-3 and 6-4 wins.
Verdict
San Diego are sending Yu Darvish to the mound for this one, and his excellent form this season makes them a tempting underdog.
