San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs Preview & Picks

Can Chicago get in front in this Wild Card series?

Check back here on Tuesday morning for our free San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs tips.

Head To Head

  • Chicago Cubs lead the all-time series 287-242
  • San Diego Padres won 4-2 when the two teams last met on April 16

San Diego Padres Form

San Diego enter the postseason having put together a 90-72 record to finish second in the NL West.

The Padres ended the regular season on a strong run of form as they won seven of their final eight games.

They began this strong sequence on the road as they rebounded from road losses to the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox with 7-3 and 3-2 wins over the Sox.

San Diego then built on that at home as they beat Milwaukee 5-4 and 7-0, before dropping the series finale 3-1.

The Padres rebounded immediately from that loss though, wrapping up the regular season with a series sweep of Arizona thanks to 7-4, 5-1 and 12-4 victories.

Chicago Cubs Form

Chicago booked their place in the playoffs by compiling a 92-70 record to finish second in the NL Central.

The Cubs blew hot and cold over the final few weeks of the regular season, costing them an opportunity to win the division.

They won seven times in an eight-game spell earlier in September, with a victory in Pittsburgh during that run securing postseason baseball.

Chicago went cold immediately after that though as they lost five straight, and they then failed to build on a 10-3 win over the New York Mets as they lost the series finale 8-5.

The Cubs bounced back at home to St Louis however, as they swept the Cardinals thanks to 12-1, 7-3 and 2-0 wins to end the regular season.
