San Diego Padres Form

San Diego entered this series on a good run of form, having won each of their previous five games.

The Padres endured a rough run in late April as they lost four straight, starting with a 6-0 shutout loss in Detroit.

They then returned home to be swept by Tampa Bay, losing 1-0, 4-1 and 4-2 to the Rays.

San Diego turned things around against San Francisco though, beating the Giants 7-4 and 5-3 at home.

The Padres then build on those victories as they kicked off this road trip with 9-4, 2-1 and 4-0 victories in Pittsburgh.

New York Yankees Form

New York came into this series looking to rebound from back-to-back losses, which made it seven defeats in the space of 12 games.

The Yankees’ disappointing run began in Cleveland as they lost 6-4 and 3-2 to the Guardians.

They did avoid being swept though, as they won the series finale 5-1, and they then returned home and rebounded from a 4-2 loss to Toronto with 11-2 and 5-1 victories of the Blue Jays.

New York struggled to follow that up in Baltimore as they sandwiched a 15-3 win over the Orioles with 4-3 and 5-4 losses, and they then failed to back up a series-opening win against Tampa.

The Yankees took that home game 3-0, only to then lose the next two meetings, 3-2 and 7-5.
