The Fighting Irish secured a place in the National Championship Game by beating Penn State 27-24 in the Orange Bowl, only to see their dreams dashed by a 34-23 loss to Ohio State in the finale.

The Hurricanes made an early statement as they blew out Florida in ‘The Swamp’ 41-17, and they quickly built on that victory.
They won nine straight games before seeing their perfect run end with a shocking 28-23 defeat Georgia Tech.
Miami FL rallied with a 42-14 demolition of Wake Forest, but their season fell apart when they lost 42-38 at Syracuse, keeping them out of the ACC Championship Game and the College Football Playoffs.
The Hurricanes had to settle for an appearance in Pop-Tarts Bowl, where they were beaten 42-41 after the starters exited the game at half-time.
