Seattle come into this series on the back of a couple of defeats and having now lost 12 of their last 17 games.
The Padres’ rough run started in Cleveland as they were beaten 8-0 and 6-3, and continued with a 3-2 loss in Miami.
They avoided a fourth straight loss with a 9-0 win over the Marlins, but they failed to build on that as they then lost 4-3 and 11-3 in Tampa Bay.
Seattle rallied to beat Tampa 5-2 and Minnesota 3-2, but their form soon collapsed again as they were beaten 5-1 and 5-3 by the Twins, and 2-0 and 4-0 by Baltimore.
The Mariners took the final meeting with the Orioles, 7-3, and then beat Toronto 2-1, only to then lose the final two meetings with the Blue Jays, 5-4 and 5-4.
San Diego Padres Form
San Diego are looking to bounce back from a couple of home defeats they suffered over the weekend.
The Padres went on a tear in the second half of June as they won nine times in a 10-game spell, starting with a 5-2 win in Philadelphia and 7-6, 9-5 and 6-4 successes against Milwaukee.
They then bounced back from a 6-2 defeat to the Brewers by sweeping Washington (7-6, 9-7, 8-5), before heading to Boston to down the Red Sox 9-2 and 11-1.
San Diego lost the final meeting 4-1 and then lost the opening game in Texas, 7-0, but they rallied to win the remaining two games against the Rangers, 6-4 and 3-1.
The Padres took their winning run to three games with a 10-8 win over Arizona, only to see it end with 7-5 and 9-1 defeats to the Diamondbacks.
Verdict
Seattle have a major advantage at starting pitcher for this one, and they are backed to cover as they beat up on a struggling starter.
