Seattle beat the A’s 5-4, only to then sandwich an 8-7 win at the New York Mets with 2-1 and 6-3 defeats.
The Mariners then travelled to Cincinnati and lost the first two games of that series, 6-3 and 7-6, before rebounding to win the final meeting 8-4.
Tampa Bay Rays Form
Tampa Bay come into this series looking to embark on another hot run of form following back-to-back wins.
The Rays won a bunch of games during the second half of August, picking up 10 wins in a 12-game period.
That run featured a four-game win streak that saw them beat the New York Yankees 3-0 and 7-4 at home, and Miami 11-2 and 3-0 on the road.
Tampa Bay failed to keep that going in Cleveland though, as they suffered 3-2 and 7-6 defeats before winning the series finale 6-2.
The Rays then dropped the series opener at home to Boston, 7-3, before rebounding with an 8-6 and 3-1 wins.
Verdict
Seattle have won in each of Luis Castillo's last seven starts, and with the edge at starting pitcher that is likely to become eight straight wins with Castillo as the starter.
