Manel Kape vs Kyoji Horiguchi Predictions & Picks

Manel Kape is tipped to avenge his previous defeat at the hands of Kyoji Horiguchi.

Kape has showcased his knockout power to establish himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in the lighter weights, and an aging Horiguchi may struggle to cope with that power.

  • Manel Kape has won 3 straight fights via TKO
  • 14 of Manel Kape’s 22 career victories have come by KO/TKO
  • 2 of Kyoji Horiguchi’s previous 3 defeats came by knockout

Head To Head

  • Kyoji Horiguchi won by submission when the two men last met in December 2017

Manel Kape Form

Manel Kape is the number two ranked flyweight contender with a professional record of 22-7 (14 KOs, 5 Subs).

Kape debuted in the UFC in early 2021 after a successful run with the Rizin promotion in Japan, but he got off to a rough start with back-to-back defeats.

He dropped a unanimous decision to Alexandre Pantoja in his debut, and then suffered a split decision defeat when he took on Matheus Nicolau.

The 32-year-old Angolan finally got off the mark in October of that year as he knocked out Ode’ Osbourne in the first round, and he then backed that up with a first-round KO of Zhalgas Zhumagulov.

Kape then out-pointed David Dvorak and Felipe dos Santos before seeing his win streak end in July 2024 when he lost a decision to Muhammad Mokaev.

‘Starboy’ has not lost since though, rebounding from that setback with three consecutive victories to storm into contention.

He knocked out Bruno Gustavo da Silva and Asu Almabayev in the third round, and then scored the biggest win of his UFC career last December when he took out Brandon Royval in 198 seconds.

Kyoji Horiguchi Form

Kyoji Horiguchi enters this fight as the number five ranked flyweight contender with a career record of 36-5 (15 KOs, 6 Subs) with 1 No Contest.

Horiguchi went 8-1 in the UFC between October 2013 and November 2016, before heading back to his native Japan where the spent the next several years fighting for the Rizin promotion, earning multiple honors.

He also competed for the Bellator MMA promotion in that time and challenged for the inaugural flyweight title, going to a No Contest with Makoto Takahashi in July 2023.

The 35-year-old Japanese fighter took the rematch later that year, beating Takahashi by second-round submission to claim the Rizin flyweight championship.

Horiguchu then beat Sergio Pettis and Nkazimulo Zulu by unanimous decision, before finally returning to the UFC late last year.

‘Karate Kid’ marked his return with a third-round submission of Tagir Ulanbekov, and followed that up in February of this year when he out-pointed Amir Albazi over three rounds.

Verdict

Kyoji Horiguchi took the first meeting between the pair, but that was a long time ago.

Manel Kape appears to be in his prime and is stacking up knockout wins, and we are backing him to flash that fight-finishing power again as he avenges his 2017 defeat to Horiguchi.
