De Minaur Continues Title Defense
Alex de Minaur was pushed hard by Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round but enjoyed a much more comfortable outing against Cruz Hewitt, winning 6-2, 6-3 to reach the Washington quarterfinals.
This is De Minaur's third quarterfinal appearance in Washington, and he has converted both of his previous runs into finals, finishing runner-up in 2018 before lifting the title in 2025.
After a strong start to the season, the Australian endured a difficult spell in the middle of the year before rediscovering his best form. His recent resurgence includes a runner-up finish in Hertogenbosch, a semifinal appearance in Hamburg, and a fourth-round run at Wimbledon.

Nakashima Returns to Washington Quarterfinals
Brandon Nakashima defeated Jakub Mensik 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to book his place in the Washington quarterfinals. The American saved four of the six break points he faced and converted two of his three break-point opportunities.
This is Nakashima's second quarterfinal appearance in Washington. Last year, he faced Alex de Minaur at this stage and lost in straight sets. He will now be looking to gain revenge and reach his first semifinal at the event.
