Golden State made a sensational start to this series as they won as an underdog in Minnesota.
The Warriors downed the Timberwolves 99-88 to take a one-game lead, but it was not all good news for them, as Stephen Curry suffered an injury that could keep him out of Game 2.
They went 48-34 in the regular season and beat Memphis 121-116 in the Play-In Tournament to book their place in the postseason.
Golden split two road games with Houston to start the first round series, winning 95-85 and losing 109-94, and then returned home to take control with 104-93 and 109-106 victories.
The Warriors blew two chances to clinch, losing 131-116 on the road and 115-107 at home, but they would not be denied as they won a Game 7 showdown with the Rockets, 103-89.
Minnesota Timberwolves Form
Minnesota enter this matchup in desperate need of a win before heading out on the road for the first time in this series.
The Timberwolves have home advantage for this conference semi-final showdown, but they failed to make the most of it in Game 1 as they were beaten 99-88 by Golden State.
They went 49-33 during the regular season and were considered underdogs for the first-round clash with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Minnesota enjoyed a winning start as they beat the Lakers 117-95 in the series opener, only to then drop the second meeting on the road, 94-85.
The Timberwolves responded in style though, winning 116-104 and 116-113 at home, before heading back to Los Angeles to wrap up the series with a 103-96 victory.
Verdict
Losing Stephen Curry is a blow for the Warriors, but the facts are hard to ignore.
They won Game 1 despite losing Curry early, and not only are they covering consistently on the road, they have repeatedly covered in recent games in Minnesota too.
