Indiana made straightforward progress to the Eastern Conference Finals, winning eight of their first 10 playoff games.
The Pacers, who finished second in the standings with a 61-21 record, made a strong start to the postseason as they won back-to-back home games against Milwaukee.
They beat the Bucks won 117-98 and 123-115 to give themselves an early advantage, only to drop their first road game, 117-101.
Indiana responded in style though, clinching the series with a 129-103 road win and a 119-118 overtime success at home.
That set up a semi-final showdown with a Cleveland team that won three more regular season games, and the Pacers enjoyed a dream start with 121-112 and 120-119 road wins.
They lost their opening home game of the series, 126-104, but rebounded in emphatic fashion as they won 129-109 at home and clinched the series with a 114-105 road win.
New York Knicks Form
New York enter this Eastern Conference Finals having knocked out the defending champions while going 8-4 in the postseason.
The Knicks, who finished third in the standings with a 51-31 record, made a mixed start to the playoffs as they went 1-1 at home against Detroit, winning 123-112 and losing 100-94.
They took the next two games on the road, 118-116 and 94-93, and then rebounded from a 108-103 loss on the road with a series-clinching 116-113 victory in Detroit.
That set up a showdown with Boston in the conference semi-finals, and New York enjoyed a sensational start to that series.
The Knicks gained a major upper-hand in the series as they won 108-105 in overtime and 91-90 in regulation in Boston.
They then bounced back from a 115-93 home loss with a 121-113 victory, before responding to a 127-102 defeat on the road with a series-clinching 119-81 success at home.
Verdict
Indiana and the free buckets offer plenty of appeal in the opening game of this series.
The Pacers have been in excellent form on the road in the postseason, while New York’s home record makes for underwhelming reading.
