Minnesota earned their spot in the postseason by putting together a 49-33 regular-season record to finish sixth in the Western Conference.
The Timberwolves entered the playoffs in strong form too, winning eight of their final nine games on the schedule.
They sparked a five-game win streak in late March when they beat Phoenix 124-109 at home, following it up with a 123-104 success against Detroit.
Minnesota then went out on the road to win 140-139 in double overtime in Denver, 105-90 at Brooklyn and 114-109 in Philadelphia.
The Timberwolves’ run was ended by a 110-103 loss in Milwaukee, but they bounced back immediately with a 141-125 win in Memphis, and backed it up at home by beating Brooklyn 117-91 and Utah 116-105.
They then enjoyed a winning start to the postseason, as they downed the Lakers, 117-95, in Game 1 in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles claimed their playoff berth by compiling a 50-32 regular-season record to finish third in the Western Conference.
The Lakers ended the regular season on a decent run of form, winning six of the final nine games on their schedule.
They won 134-127 in Memphis and 104-98 at home to Houston, before suffering a 123-116 defeat at the hands of Golden State.
Los Angeles rebounded to beat New Orleans 124-108, and then split a two-game showdown with Oklahoma City, winning 126-99 and losing 136-120.
The Lakers responded to the loss by winning 112-97 in Dallas and 140-109 at home to Houston, only to close out the regular season with a 109-81 defeat to Portland.
They then made a losing start to the playoffs, as they were beaten 117-95 at home by Minnesota.
Verdict
Los Angeles produced a stinker in Game 1 as only Luka Doncic got anything going.
We expect to see improvement from the Lakers in this one, as they knot up the series before heading to Minnesota.
