The Magic, who put together a 47-35 record in the regular season to finish fifth in the Eastern Conference, entered the playoffs in poor form.
They lost four of the final six games in the regular season, and started the playoffs with back-to-back defeats on the road, losing 97-83 and 96-86 in Cleveland.
Orlando issued a strong response at home as they beat the Cavaliers 121-83 and 112-89, only to then give the series lead back to the Cavaliers with a 104-103 road defeat in Game 5.
That made Friday's meeting in Florida a must-win game for the Magic, and they withstood the pressure to record a103-96 victory.

Cleveland return home looking to make the most of home advantage in a must-win Game 7 showdown with Orlando.
The Cavaliers compiled a 48-34 record during the regular season to finish fourth in the Eastern Conference, and they made an ideal start to the playoffs.
They opened up with back-to-back home games against Orlando and came out on top in a couple of low-scoring encounters, 97-83 and 96-86.
Cleveland failed to back up those wins on the road though, as they fell to 121-83 and 112-89 defeats in Florida.
The Cavaliers rebounded at home with a 104-103 victory, only to squander the series lead once again when they went back out on the road, this time losing 103-96.
Verdict
Cleveland blew their first shot at clinching, but they are backed to take their second chance.
The Cavaliers have won all three home games in this series so far, continuing a good run of form at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
