The Spartans ended the regular season on a red-hot run of form, winning each of their final seven games.
They made it eight-in-a-row in their first outing in the Big Ten tournament, downing Oregon 74-64, only to see their streak come to a shuddering halt in the next round.
Michigan State were knocked out of the conference tournament by a 77-74 defeat at the hands of Wisconsin.
The Spartans have bounced back in the national tournament though, reaching the Sweet 16 thanks to an 87-62 win over Bryant and a 71-63 success against New Mexico.

Mississippi enter this Sweet 16 matchup with Michigan State having won five of their previous seven games.
The Rebels lost three straight to end February, before rallying to win two of their final three regular season games.
They then enjoyed a winning start to the SEC tournament as they downed Arkansas, 83-80, but that proved to be their only victory in the competition.
Mississippi were knocked out in the very next round as they were beaten 62-57 by Auburn.
The Rebels quickly returned to winning ways though, and they have beaten North Carolina 71-64 and Iowa State 91-78 to progress to the last 16 in March Madness.

Mississippi have impressed through their first two games of the tournament and will not be an easy ride for Michigan State.
