Duke Form

Duke snatched their place in the ACC Championship by winning their final two games of the regular season.

The Blue Devils opened the campaign by going 1-2 in non-conference play, but made a flying start to their ACC schedule as they downed NC State 45-33 at home.

They backed that up with road wins at Syracuse, 38-3, and California, 45-21, only to suffer their first defeat when they fell 27-18 to Georgia Tech.

Duke rebounded to upset Clemson on the road, 46-45, but failed to build on that as they lost 37-34 at Uconn in non-conference action before falling 34-17 to Virginia in ACC play.

The Blue Devils have not lost since though, winning 32-25 at North Carolina and 49-32 at home to Wake Forest to force their way into the conference championship.

Virginia Form

Virginia enter the ACC Championship having rebounded from a late regular season loss to finish 8-2 in conference play and 10-2 overall.

The Cavaliers opened the season by going 2-1 in non-conference action, before kicking off their ACC slate by beating Stanford 48-20 and upsetting Florida State 46-38 at home.

They then downed Louisville on the road, 30-27, before following up a 22-20 non-conference win over Washington State with ACC successes at NC State, 17-16, and California, 31-21.

Virginia’s perfect conference run was finally ended by a 16-9 defeat at Wake Forest, but they rallied over their final two games to finish top of the conference standings.

The Cavaliers registered a 34-17 victory at championship game opponents Duke, before downing Virginia Tech at home, 27-7.

Verdict

Virginia got the better of Duke in a comfortable regular season win, and we expect more of the same here.

The Cavaliers are simply the better team and for that reason we are backing them to win and cover.
