Oklahoma Form
Oklahoma enter the college football playoffs riding a four-game win streak that secured them a 10-2 record and a spot in the postseason.
The Sooners opened with three consecutive non-conference wins, before starting their SEC slate with a 24-17 win at home to Auburn.
They then shut out a non-conference opponent a week later, only to see their perfect start end with a 23-6 loss to Texas when they returned to SEC duty the following weekend.
Oklahoma issued an immediate response in the form of a 26-7 win at South Carolina, only to then lose 34-26 when they played host to Ole Miss a week later.
The Sooners have not lost since though, sparking a four-game win streak with a 33-27 victory at Tennessee.
They then knocked off Alabama on the road, 23-21, before closing out the regular season by beating Missouri 17-6 and LSU 17-13 at home.
Alabama Form
Alabama enter this playoffs on the back of an SEC Championship defeat to Georgia – their third loss in 13 games this season.
The Crimson Tide made a nightmare start as they lost 31-17 at Florida State, but rebounded with a couple of non-conference wins to take some form into their SEC opener.
They made a dream start to their conference slate as they upset Georgia on the road, 24-21, and they backed that up by avenging last season’s loss to Vanderbilt with a 30-14 win.
Alabama then took their perfect SEC run to six games as they beat Missouri 27-24, Tennessee 37-20, South Carolina 29-22 and LSU 20-9.
The Crimson Tide’s run was ended by a 23-21 loss at home to Oklahoma, and after bouncing back in a non-conference game they beat Auburn 27-20 to close out the regular season.
That victory secured their place in the conference championship game, but they were no match for Georgia as they were beaten 28-7.
Verdict
Alabama have had some rough results in recent weeks, but that first meeting showed they are more than capable of taking down Oklahoma.
We expect the Crimson Tide to take a lot better care of the football in this one, ensuring there is no repeat of last month’s loss.
