Texas A&M vs Miami FL Preview & Picks

Miami are tipped to cover as a betting underdog in the college football playoffs.

The Hurricanes’ defense can slow down this high-powered Aggies attack, while the offense leans on its impressive run game to chew up the clock to, at the very least, keep it close.

Texas A&M enter the college football playoffs on the back of a loss that denied them a perfect regular season.

The Aggies opened with three straight non-conference victories, including a 41-40 victory when they visited Notre Dame.

They then kicked off their SEC slate with a run of three home games and made it count, beating Auburn 16-10, Mississippi State 31-9 and Florida 34-17.

Texas A&M went out on the road for their next three games, and continued their red-hot run as they won a shootout in Arkansas, 45-42.

The Aggies backed that up with victories at LSU, 49-25, and Missouri, 38-17, before returning home to down South Carolina 48-0.

They then won a non-conference game, but missed out on a perfect regular season campaign and an SEC Championship spot as they lost 27-17 at Texas last time out.

Miami go into the college football playoffs having won their final four games of the regular season to finish 10-2.

The Hurricanes opened the campaign with a 27-24 win at home Notre Dame, and that proved to be the pivotal moment as it gave them the head-to-head over the Fighting Irish.

They backed that up with a blow out of Bethune Cookman, and then secured the state bragging rights as they beat South Florida 49-12, Florida 26-7 and Florida State 28-22.

Miami’s playoff bid suffered a major setback after that though, as they lost 24-21 to Louisville, and then then failed to follow up a 42-7 blowout of Stanford as they lost 26-20 at SMU.

That left the Hurricanes needing to win out, and they did just that as they reeled off four consecutive victories, starting with a 38-10 win over Syracuse.

They then beat NC State 41-7 in their home finale, before heading out on the road to beat Virginia Tech 34-17 and a ranked Pitt team, 38-7. 

Verdict

Miami’s spot in the college football playoffs will remain the subject of much debate throughout December.

They are in though and what cannot be debated is their quality on both sides of the football – they can at the very least make life very difficult for the Aggies in this one.
