Oregon go into the college football playoffs having rebounded from the loss to Indiana with a six-game win streak to finish the regular season 11-1.
The Ducks opened with back-to-back non-conference wins, before downing Northwestern on the road, 34-14, in their Big Ten opener.
They then blew out Oregon State, 41-7, before returning to conference action with a big 30-24 victory at a Penn State ranked in the top three by AP at the time.
Oregon were brought back down to Earth a week later as they lost 30-10 at home to Indiana, but they issued an immediate response in the form of a 56-10 rout of Rutgers, and they have been on a roll since.
The Ducks backed up that victory with a 21-7 win over Wisconsin, and then beat Iowa 18-16 on the road before returning home to beat Minnesota, 42-13, and USC, 42-27.
They then wrapped up the regular season, and secured a playoff place, by winning 26-14 in Washington last time out.
James Madison Form
James Madison booked their spot in the college football playoffs by winning the Sun Belt Championship.
The Dukes opened the season by going 2-1 in non-conference action, including a 28-14 defeat in Louisville, but once the Sun Belt schedule got underway they went on a tear.
They opened with a 35-10 win over Georgia Southern, and then backed up a 14-7 victory at Georgia State with home wins over Louisiana, 24-14, and Old Dominion, 63-27.
James Madison went out on the road over the next couple of games and downed Texas State 52-20 and Marshall 35-23, earning themselves a spot in the rankings.
The Dukes retained that spot with a 58-10 blowout of Appalachian State and a 24-20 victory over non-conference opponents Washington State.
They then closed out the regular season campaign with a 59-10 demolition of Coastal Carolina, before beating Troy 31-14 for the conference championship.
Verdict
James Madison deservedly lifted them conference crown, but they are simply not on Oregon’s level.
