Brandon Nakashima has been one of the standout performers of the week, producing a series of convincing displays, including an impressive victory over top-10 player Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals. In contrast, Francesco Cerundolo has had to work much harder for his wins and has not looked nearly as convincing, even being pushed to three sets by a lower-ranked opponent in the quarterfinals.

Nakashima Seeks Semifinal Turnaround

  • Nakashima has lost seven of his last eight tour-level semifinals.
  • He owns a 16–8 record against players outside the Top 30 in 2026.
  • Cerundolo holds a 7–11 career record in tour-level semifinals.
  • He has a 22–6 record against players outside the Top 20 in 2026.

Nakashima Upsets De Minaur to Reach Semifinals

Brandon Nakashima moved into the semifinals after defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. He fired seven aces, saved both break points he faced and converted both of the break opportunities he created during the match.

This is only the second tour-level grass-court semifinal of Nakashima's career. His previous appearance at this stage on the surface came in Stuttgart in 2024, where he lost to eventual champion Jack Draper in straight sets. He now has another opportunity to improve on that result.

The American started the season strongly by reaching the final in Brisbane. However, he struggled for consistency between the Australian Open and Roland Garros, recording multiple wins at only one tournament during that stretch, a semifinal run in Acapulco.

Nakashima heads into this clash with a 4-7 record in tour-level semifinals. Apart from his victory in Brisbane earlier this year, he has lost six of his last seven matches at this stage and will be hoping to reverse that trend this week.

Argentine Fights Into Last Four

Francisco Cerundolo secured his place in the semifinals after defeating Arthur Fery in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. He also trailed by a break in the deciding set before producing a comeback to seal the victory.

The Argentine will be delighted with his run this week considering he arrived in London having failed to win a match on grass over the previous two seasons. Before this tournament, his only grass-court semifinal came during his title-winning campaign in Eastbourne in 2023, which also remains the only time he has recorded multiple wins at a grass-court event.

Despite producing several solid results this season, Cerundolo has been unable to match the level he showed during the first half of 2025, which contributed to his drop outside the Top 20 in the rankings. A few more deep runs could quickly move him back into that group.

Cerundolo owns a 7-11 record in tour-level semifinals and has struggled recently at this stage, losing five of his last six semifinal appearances.

Verdict

Based purely on current form and the level both players have shown this week, Nakashima appears to hold the edge heading into this matchup. Backing Nakashima to win, Nakashima to win in straight sets, and Nakashima to cover the -2.5 games handicap all look like strong options.
