Alexis Galarneau has built plenty of confidence in recent weeks with a series of strong performances. Combined with home advantage and his comfort on North American hard courts, those factors give the Canadian a slight edge in this matchup.

Vit Kopriva may be the more established ATP Tour player, but he faces the challenge of transitioning from clay to hard courts, which could leave him vulnerable.

Galarneau Seeks A Home Breakthrough

  • Galarneau has a 1–4 career record in opening-round tour-level matches.
  • He has a 2–2 record against Top 100 players over the last 12 months.
  • Kopriva is 3–0 in opening-round Masters matches in 2026.
  • He has an 11–5 record against players outside the Top 100 in 2026.

Alexis Galarneau Seeks Another Canadian Open Win

Alexis Galarneau received a main-draw wildcard for the Canadian Open in Montreal. This marks his seventh appearance at the event. Apart from reaching the second round in Toronto last year, his other six campaigns ended either in the qualifying stages or the opening round.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season on the Challenger Tour, reaching eight quarterfinals or better, including two runner-up finishes earlier this year.

This is only the sixth ATP Tour main-draw appearance of his career. Aside from his victory in Toronto last year, all of his other tour-level main-draw appearances have ended in defeat.

Vit Kopriva Hopes to Bounce Back

Vit Kopriva arrives in Montreal enduring a difficult spell on tour. The Czech is currently on a four-match losing streak and has failed to win a main-draw match in four of his last five tournaments.

Those recent struggles have come after a strong first half of the season, highlighted by a fourth-round run in Madrid, a semifinal appearance in Rio de Janeiro, and quarterfinal finishes in Buenos Aires, Munich, and Mallorca.

This is Kopriva's second appearance at the Canadian Open. On his debut in Toronto last year, he suffered a straight-sets first-round defeat to Bu Yunchaokete.
