Nakashima Ends Top-10 Drought
Brandon Nakashima secured his place in the Washington semifinals after upsetting Alex de Minaur 7-6, 6-4. The American trailed 1-3 in the second set before producing a strong comeback to close out the match in straight sets.
With the victory, Nakashima snapped a 14-match losing streak against top-10 opponents and reached his first semifinal in Washington.
The American has produced several deep runs this season, highlighted by a runner-up finish in Brisbane, semifinal appearances in Acapulco and Queen's Club, and a third-round run at the French Open.
Nakashima owns a 5-9 career record in ATP Tour-level semifinals and has lost eight of his last nine matches at this stage.

Fritz Survives Tough Quarterfinal Test
Taylor Fritz survived a hard-fought three-set battle against Alex Michelsen to reach the Washington semifinals, winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-6. The American fired 15 aces and saved eight of the 10 break points he faced.
This is Fritz's second Washington semifinal. He previously reached the last four in 2023 before losing to Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets. He will now be looking to go one step further.
Despite fitness issues during the clay season that forced him to skip several tournaments, Fritz has enjoyed another strong campaign. He has reached three finals, added a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, and made the fourth round at both the Australian Open and Miami.
