Alcaraz Seeks Barcelona Title Return

Carlos Alcaraz reached the final in Monte Carlo last week, defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Alexander Bublik, and Valentin Vacherot before losing to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He led by a break in both sets but couldn’t convert his chances.

With that loss, he failed to defend his Monte Carlo title and also surrendered the world No. 1 ranking to Sinner, who has now won four consecutive Masters titles.

Alcaraz had started the season strongly, winning 16 matches in a row, including titles at the Australian Open and Doha, along with a semifinal in Indian Wells.

This will be his sixth appearance in Barcelona. After losing in the opening round in his first two visits, he has reached at least the final in his last three appearances, including title wins in 2022 and 2023.

Virtanen Qualifies For Barcelona Main Draw

Otto Virtanen qualified for the Barcelona main draw with back-to-back wins over Aleksandar Vukic and Alexandre Muller. This marks his second main-draw appearance on tour this year.

The 24-year-old has played six tournaments in 2026, with his best results being semifinal runs on the Challenger circuit in Manama and Thionville, while his other events ended in qualifying or early-round exits.

This is his second visit to Barcelona after failing in qualifying in 2023. He holds a 2-3 record in first-round matches on tour-level clay events.
