James McCabe has experienced a noticeable dip in performance levels over the last few months and has not appeared to be at his peak physical condition either. In his current state, asking him to produce competitive performances in the main draw of a tour-level grass-court event looks like a difficult task.

Bergs Looks To Continue Success

  • James McCabe is looking for his first tour-level win on grass.
  • He owns a 0–4 career record against Top 50 players.

Young Australian Building Momentum on Grass

James McCabe qualified for the main draw in 's-Hertogenbosch after defeating Coleman Wong in three sets and Sander Jong in straight sets. He is now looking for his second tour-level main-draw win and his first since the Australian Open in 2025.

The Australian began his grass-court season at the Birmingham Challenger last week, where he also came through qualifying. His run included a three-set victory over Martin Damm before he was defeated by Kamil Majchrzak in the main draw.

The 22-year-old has spent most of his time on the lower-level circuit, where he has posted six quarterfinal-or-better results this season. Three of those runs came at Challenger events, highlighting his steady progress and growing confidence heading into the grass swing.

Belgian Seeking Another Deep Run

Zizou Bergs made a slow start to the season, winning only three tour-level main-draw matches before April. However, his form improved during the clay swing, highlighted by a third-round run in Monte Carlo, a runner-up finish at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger and a quarterfinal appearance at the Valencia Challenger.

The Belgian's strong finish to the 2025 season, including a quarterfinal run in Shanghai and a third-round appearance at the US Open, combined with his recent results, helped him reach a career-high ranking of No. 38 a few weeks ago.

Bergs has enjoyed steady progress in 's-Hertogenbosch. He lost in qualifying in 2022, reached the second round in 2024 and advanced to the final last year. With a higher ranking and growing confidence, he now returns looking to defend those valuable points.

Verdict

Zizou Bergs is the superior grass-court player and should be able to take advantage of the matchup. Backing Bergs to win in straight sets and cover the -2.5 games handicap looks well supported by the current circumstances.
