Darderi Continues His Breakthrough Montreal Run
Luciano Darderi defeated Nuno Borges from a set down to reach the quarterfinals in Montreal, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. He saved five of the seven break points he faced and converted three of the seven opportunities he created during the match.
After retiring in the first round in Los Cabos due to an arm injury last week, there were concerns over his fitness. However, he has overcome those concerns impressively this week, including winning two comeback matches.
The 24-year-old has already posted nine quarterfinal-or-better results on tour this year, winning five of them, showing his incredible rise and continued progress during his breakthrough season.
Darderi had previously played only one Masters 1000 quarterfinal in his career, which came in Rome earlier this year. He defeated Rafael Jodar at that stage before losing to Casper Ruud in straight sets. He will now be looking for a similar result this week.

Nakashima Breaks Through in Montreal
Brandon Nakashima survived a tough three-set encounter against Arthur Rinderknech to reach the quarterfinals, 7-6, 5-7, 7-5. He fired 16 aces and broke his opponent three times during the match.
This is his best result at Masters 1000 level and also at the Canadian Open. He previously lost in the round of 16 five times at this level, including against Andrey Rublev in Toronto in 2024.
