Griekspoor Continues His Montreal Revival
After upsetting Alexander Zverev from a set down in the previous round, Tallon Griekspoor produced another comeback against Matteo Arnaldi to reach the fourth round in Montreal, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. He saved only one of the five break points he faced but converted five of the nine opportunities he created.
This is the run Griekspoor has been waiting for in recent months as he looks to regain his momentum. He had failed to win multiple matches in his previous 10 tour level tournaments and had never won a match in his three previous appearances at the Canadian Open.
His notable results before this week included reaching the final in Dubai, where he withdrew from the final due to a hamstring injury, along with quarterfinal appearances in Montpellier and Rotterdam.
Griekspoor has a 1-3 record in round-of-16 matches at Masters 1000 level, with his only win coming at the Indian Wells Masters in 2025.

Merida Aguilar Eyes a Maiden Masters Quarterfinal
Daniel Merida Aguilar survived a three-set battle against Liam Draxl in the opening round before producing back-to-back upsets against Ugo Humbert and Alex Michelsen to reach the fourth round in Montreal.
Before 2026, he had never won a main-draw match at tour level, but this season he has showcased his ability at this level and produced notable breakthrough results. Those performances helped him make his top-100 debut and reach a career-high ranking of No. 59 a few weeks ago.
The Spaniard notably lifted his maiden tour-level title in Umag, reached the final in Bucharest and made the third round at the Madrid Masters.
He is now one win away from reaching his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal. With this run, Merida Aguilar is also set to make his top-50 debut next week.
