Tallon griekspoor has not enjoyed the kind of season he would have hoped for so far, with fitness issues contributing to a lack of consistency and momentum. He must be desperate to turn things around at his home tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he is a former champion and also reached the semifinals during his most recent appearance in 2024.

With a strong record at the venue and the support of the home crowd, this looks like an ideal opportunity for him to regain confidence.

Home Favorite Under Spotlight

  • Griekspoor holds a 2–1 record in second-round matches at 's-Hertogenbosch.
  • He owns a 3–4 record against players outside the Top 100 in 2026.
  • Zhang has not recorded consecutive wins at a tour-level event since February 2025.
  • He has a 3–13 record against Top 50 players since the start of 2025.

Griekspoor Survives Dutch Battle in 's-Hertogenbosch

Tallon Griekspoor defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 to reach the second round in 's-Hertogenbosch. He had several opportunities to finish the match in straight sets but eventually needed a decider to get over the line.

After a quiet Australian swing, Griekspoor found form with quarterfinal runs in Montpellier and Rotterdam, followed by a runner-up finish in Dubai. However, a hamstring injury suffered during that week forced him to give a walkover in the final and disrupted his season.

The Dutchman skipped the Sunshine Double and has struggled since returning, winning just one match across six tour-level clay-court events.

Griekspoor holds a 2-1 record in second-round matches at 's-Hertogenbosch. He lost at this stage in 2022 but went on to win the title in 2023 and reach the semifinals in 2025.

Zhang Looks to Build on Rare Success

Zhizhen Zhang defeated Jenson Brooksby 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 to reach the second round in 's-Hertogenbosch. He had two match points to close out the contest in straight sets but was forced into a decider before finishing strongly in the third set.

It was Zhang's first main-draw win since Houston. Before this week, his previous seven tournaments had ended either in qualifying or in the opening round. Overall, he has played 15 events this season and recorded multiple main-draw wins only once, when he won the Brisbane Challenger title in February.

The Chinese player has not won multiple matches at a tour-level event since Marseille last year, where he reached the quarterfinals. That run underlines the difficulties he has faced with both form and fitness over the past couple of seasons.

Verdict

In these favorable conditions, Griekspoor should be able to take control of the matchup from the outset. Backing Griekspoor to win in straight sets and cover the -2.5 games handicap looks fully justified.
