Ugo Humbert is simply the better, more reliable, and more solid player compared to his compatriot Benjamin Bonzi. Humbert has built an excellent record on grass throughout his career and is generally far more comfortable on the surface. Bonzi, meanwhile, can be quite inconsistent and has often struggled to maintain a high level over the course of a match.

Humbert Eyes Another Deep Run

  • Ugo Humbert holds a 2–1 record in second-round matches at 's-Hertogenbosch.
  • He owns a 10–4 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.
  • Benjamin Bonzi has not registered multiple wins at a tour-level grass event since 2022.
  • He is currently on a seven-match losing streak against Top 50 players.

Humbert Opens Campaign in Style

Ugo Humbert opened his campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Elias Ymer to reach the second round. He did not face a break point and won an outstanding 96% of his first-serve points during the match.

Since Newport 2023, Humbert has followed a curious pattern on grass: he has either lost in the opening round or won at least two matches. He will now look to continue that trend this week.

The Frenchman started the season strongly with a runner-up finish in Adelaide and a semifinal run in Rotterdam, but has struggled for consistency since then, failing to win multiple matches in seven of his last nine tournaments.

Humbert holds a 2-1 record in second-round matches in 's-Hertogenbosch. He reached the semifinals in each of the last two editions and will be aiming for another deep run this week.

Frenchman Eyes Rare Deep Grass-Court Run

Benjamin Bonzi came through qualifying with wins over Marc Polmans and Bernard Tomic before defeating Mees Rottgering 6-4, 6-4 in the first round. He dropped serve twice but broke his opponent five times to secure his third win of the week. Grass has not been a particularly productive surface for Bonzi in recent years.

Last season he played four grass-court events and won just one main-draw match, which came at Wimbledon. He has not recorded multiple wins at a tour-level grass event since 2022, when he reached three quarterfinals during his best season on the surface.

The 30-year-old was ranked around the Top 50 until September last year, but failure to defend key indoor points, including his title in Metz, saw him fall outside the Top 100 by the end of 2025. While he has collected four quarterfinal-or-better results on the Challenger Tour this season, he has managed only two ATP main-draw wins before this week, highlighting his struggles at tour level.

Verdict

Humbert looked sharp in his opening-round match this week and should be able to build on that performance here. Backing Humbert to win in straight sets and cover the -2.5 games handicap is fully justified given the gap in reliability between the two players.
