Chicago head to Milwaukee on the back of a successful end to the Crosstown series with the White Sox.

The Cubs had gone into that series on a rough run of form, having cooled off from a four-game win streak.

They wrapped up a six-game road trip with 5-2 and 4-1 wins at the New York Yankees, and backed up those wins at home as they beat Boston 4-1 and 6-0.

Chicago missed out on the series sweep as they lost 6-1 to the Red Sox, and they then sandwiched a 6-0 victory over Kansas City with 12-4 and 8-4 defeats to the Royals.

The Cubs dropped the series opener with the White Sox too, 12-5, but they rallied to take the next two, ending last week with 6-1 and 5-4 wins.

Milwaukee Brewers Form

Milwaukee enter this series on the back of only their second win in their previous five games.

The Brewers were red hot for much of July as they embarked on an 11-game win streak that included a couple of sweeps of the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

They beat LA 9-1, 3-1 and 3-2 at home, and later in the month they went out on the road to beat the Dodgers 2-0, 8-7 and 6-5.

Milwaukee’s run was finally ended by a 1-0 defeat in Seattle, and although they rebounded to win the series finale 10-2, they struggled to follow that up.

The Brewers dropped the first two games at home to Miami, 5-1 and 7-4, before rallying to win the series finale, 3-2.

Matthew Boyd has been in tremendous form for the Cubs this season, stacking up wins.

He is a big reason why were are taking Chicago in the opening game of what could prove to be a decisive series in this division.
