San Diego are tipped to complete a series sweep of Detroit.

The Padres have been in good form at home over the past several weeks, while starter Martin Perez stepped up his game in August.

Detroit Tigers Form

Detroit entered this series having enjoyed a good run of form over the previous few weeks to stay in playoff contention.

The Tigers spent several days in Chicago as they faced both the Cubs and the White Sox, going 5-2 in the ‘Windy City’.

They sandwiched an 8-2 win with 3-1 and 10-2 defeats against the Cubs, but fared much better against the White Sox, sweeping them with 5-2, 13-4, 9-4 and 6-3 victories.

Detroit then took their win streak to six games when they returned home to beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 and 3-2.

The Tigers’ run was halted by a 3-0 loss to the Angels and they then lost 7-5 to Boston, but they rebounded quickly as they took the final two meetings with the Red Sox, 2-1 and 4-1.

San Diego Padres Form

San Diego came into this series having been on a mixed run of form over the past couple of weeks, going 6-5 of their previous 11 games.

The Padres began this inconsistent series against the New York Mets as they twice rebounded from a defeat with a victory.

They responded to losing the series opener 8-3 by winning the second meeting 7-0, and they then bounced back from a 7-1 defeat with a 3-2 victory.

San Diego then went out on the road to win 7-4 and 7-5 in St Louis, only to lose the final two games in the series, 4-3 and 4-1.

The Padres moved on to Tampa Bay after that series and sandwiched an 11-4 defeat to the Rays with 13-5 and 4-3 wins.

San Diego have taken the first two games of this series to continue their recent good home form.

We are expecting more of the same as starting pitcher Martin Perez builds on his good August form.
