Botic van de Zandschulp Looks to Recreate Last Year's Run

Botic van de Zandschulp has found timely momentum in recent weeks, reaching the fourth round in Montreal and the second round in Cincinnati, where he lost to Jakub Mensik and Joao Fonseca respectively.

These results are encouraging considering his struggles with consistency and lack of results during the previous two months. His notable runs this season include the semifinal in Bucharest, quarterfinal in Rotterdam and third-round appearances at the Australian Open and Rome.

This is his fifth appearance in Winston-Salem, where he has a 1-1 record in opening-round matches. Notably, he reached the final here last year and will be looking to produce another deep run.

Vallejo's Remarkable Rise Reaches Another Stage

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo moved into the second round after his opponent Pablo Carreno Busta retired while trailing by a set and 0-3 due to injury. This is his seventh opening-round victory out of 11 tour-level events this year.

The 22-year-old has produced some notable results at this level, reaching the semifinal in Bastad and the third round in Cincinnati and Rome, along with four other finals on the Challenger circuit.

These results helped him achieve a career-high ranking of No. 61 a few days ago. His rise is particularly impressive considering he had not played a tour-level match before this year.
