Philadelphia entered this series on the back of a defeat but in solid form, having won seven of their previous nine games.

The Phillies lost three straight games in late May, but turned things around before the end of the month.

They downed San Francisco 6-1 on the road, and then backed that up with 4-2 and 6-1 home wins over St Louis, before missing out on the sweep with a 5-4 loss in the series finale.

Philadelphia rebounded immediately from that loss though, winning 3-1, 2-1 and 2-0 at home to Milwaukee to complete a three-game sweep of the Brewers.

The Phillies then split a two-game series with the New York Mets in London, winning 7-2 before losing 6-5.

Boston Red Sox Form

Boston came into this series on the back of a win, but on a rollercoaster run of form having gone 5-6 in their last 11 games.

This sequence started was the Red Sox lost 6-1 in Baltimore, before returning home to lose 5-0 to Detroit.

They took the next two meetings with the Tigers, winning 7-3 and 6-3, but had to settle for a split of the series as they lost the final encounter, 8-4.

Boston then fell to an 8-3 defeat when they hosted Atlanta, only to rebound and split that two-game series with 9-0 win.

The Red Sox then won 14-2 at the Chicago White Sox, before bouncing back from 7-2 and 6-1 defeats to split the series with a 6-4 victory.
