Toronto are tipped to bounce back from last night's surprise home defeat.

Despite that Game 1 loss, the Mariners have been in excellent form at home, and rookie starter Trey Yesavage showed in his playoff debut that he will not be dazzled by the bright lights of the postseason.

Seattle Mariners Form

Seattle advanced to the AL Championship Series by beating Detroit in five games in the Division Series.

The Mariners dropped the opening game of the series at home 3-2, but rallied to take the next two meetings with the Tigers, 3-2 at home and 8-4 on the road.

They passed up on the chance to clinch as they fell 9-3 in Detroit, but they kept their nerve in Game 5 to clinch thanks to a 3-2 victory.

Seattle had booked their place in the playoffs by putting together a 90-72 record to finish top of the AL West, sealing a first-round bye.

The Mariners clinched the division during a great run that saw them win 17 times during an 18-game spell in September.

Toronto Blue Jays Form

Toronto claimed their place in the AL Championship Series by beating the New York Yankees in four games.

The Blue Jays made the perfect start to that series as they erupted offensively at home, beating the Yankees 10-1 and 13-7.

They missed out on the series sweep as they then lost 9-6 in New York, but they rebounded immediately to wrap things up with a 5-2 victory in Game 4.

Toronto earned their postseason berth by compiling a 94-68 record to finish top of the AL East standings.

The Blue Jays finished with an identical record to the Yankees, but they took the head-to-head and received a first-round bye as a result.

Verdict

Seattle drew first blood on Sunday night, but we expect Toronto to issue an immediate response.

The Blue Jays have been rock solid at home all season and the occasion will not be too big for rookie pitcher Yesavage.
