Cory Sandhagen vs Rob Font Preview & Picks
Cory Sandhagen is tipped to win this fight via decision.
Sandhagen is a talented striker who uses his reach advantage well and switches his stance in fights.
That approach can help him frustrate Rob Font in the stand-up and lead him to a decision victory.
- Cory Sandhagen is 11-3 in his last 14 fights
- 3 of Sandhagen’s last 4 fights have gone the distance
- 5 of Rob Font’s 6 career defeats have been via decision
- Rob Font has never been stopped by KO/TKO
Cory Sandhagen Form
Cory Sandhagen is the #4 ranked bantamweight fighter with a professional record of 16-4 (7 KO/TKO, 3 Sub).
Sandhagen made his UFC debut in January 2018, stopping Austin Arnett with strikes in the second round, and went on to win each of his first five fights.
He knocked out Iuri Alcantara in the second round before submitting Mario Bautista in the very first round.
‘The Sandman’ then recorded decision wins over John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao to earn a bantamweight title eliminator showdown with Aljamain Sterling.
It proved to be a disappointing night for Sandhagen though, as he was submitted in less than 90 seconds.
The 31-year-old American rebounded quickly as he knocked out Marlon Moraes in the second round and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in just 28 seconds.
His momentum stalled after that though as he dropped a split decision to former champion TJ Dillashaw, before losing on points to Petr Yan in an interim title fight.
Sandhagen has bounced back again though, beating Song Yadong via a doctor stoppage before edging Marlon Vera via split decision.
Rob Font Form
Rob Font is the #7 bantamweight fighter with a professional record of 20-6 (9 KO/TKO, 4 Sub).
Font debuted in the UFC in January July 2014 and fared well over the first couple of years, winning four of his first five fights.
He hit a rough patch between October 2017 and July 2018 though, losing twice in a three-fight spell.
The 36-year-old American was submitted in the first round by Pedro Munhoz, and after bouncing back with a second-round knockout of Thomas Almeida, he lost on points to Raphael Assuncao.
Font’s response to the loss to Assuncao was a strong one, as he reeled off four consecutive victories.
He earned unanimous decision wins against Sergio Pettis and Ricky Simon, before stopping Marlon Moraes with strikes in the first round.
His next outing saw him beat former champion Cody Garbandt on points, but he was unable to follow that up.
Font lost to former featherweight champion Jose Aldo on points before losing a unanimous decision to Marlon Vera.
He did rebound in his first outing of 2023 though, taking out Adrian Yanez in just under three minutes.
Verdict
Both men are high-volume, accurate strikers, with Font boasting the edge in finishing power.
However, Sandhagen’s savvy use of range and stance-switching makes him the more appealing pick.
