Nick Diaz vs Robbie Lawler Picks & Betting Tips
Robbie Lawler can avenge his 2004 defeat to Nick Diaz in this long-awaited rematch.
Diaz has not fought since 2015 and has been ‘living his best life’ in his time away from the Octagon.
If he cannot cut the same pace that he used to, Diaz could find himself getting outpointed by Lawler.
‘Ruthless’ is in poor form, but he could land the more eye-catching strikes to get the nod.
- Robbie Lawler has fought 8 times since Nick Diaz retired
- Robbie Lawler has gone the distance in 4 of his last 5 fights
- Robbie Lawler has faced a top-10 fighter in 12 of his last 13 fights
- Robbie Lawler has 45% striking accuracy (Diaz 42%)
- Robbie Lawler has 60% striking defense (Diaz 61%)

- Nick Diaz went 0-2, 1 No Contest before retiring (the NC was originally a decision loss)
Nick Diaz Form
Nick Diaz is ending a six-year absence from the Octagon. His form before retiring was not good.
When Diaz bested BJ Penn over three rounds in October 2011 it would prove to be his last win under the UFC banner.
He was beaten by unanimous decision when he faced Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight title in February 2012.
Diaz subsequently failed a drug test and did not fight again until one year later.
He was awarded a crack at the welterweight title but was beaten over five rounds by Georges St-Pierre.
It would be two more years before he would fight again. Diaz lost to fellow legend Anderson Silva.
However, that January 2015 fight was later ruled a No Contest after both fighters failed drug tests.
That result means Diaz boasts a 26-9, 2 No Contest record. 13 of his 26 wins have come via KO/TKO, with eight coming by submission.
Of his nine career losses, Diaz has been stopped with strikes twice. His other nine losses were by decision.
Robbie Lawler Form
Robbie Lawler enjoyed an incredible career renaissance in 2013 as he rode a three-fight win streak to a title shot.
‘Ruthless’ dropped a decision to Johny Hendricks, but rebounded with a couple of wins to earn another fight with ‘Bigg Rigg’ in December 2014.
Lawler took his second shot, earning a split decision to become champion over 12 years after making his UFC debut.
He made two successful defences against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit.
Lawler lost the belt in his third defence. He was knocked out 132 seconds by Tyron Woodley in July 2016.
He rebounded with a decision won over Donald Cerrone, but that July 2017 fight is his last win to date.
Lawler has lost four straight fights since then. He dropped a decision to Rafael dos Anjos before losing to Ben Askren via submission.
Colby Covington was the next man to beat ‘Ruthless’, with Neil Magny his most recent conqueror.
That August 2020 loss took Lawler’s record to 28 wins, 15 losses and 1 No Contest. 20 of his 28 wins have come via knockout.
Lawler has been knocked out three times and submitted five times in his career.

Verdict
Lawler’s form over the past few years has not been great, but he has been actively facing good competition.
Diaz has been gone for a long time and there are too many question marks to back him with confidence.
Lawler is probably the safer play and these two past-their-prime fighters may need the judges to determine a winner.
