The Mavericks finished fifth in the Western Conference, having put together a 50-32 record during the regular season.
They won seven of the final 10 games on the schedule, but came into the postseason on the back of a couple of defeats that closed out the regular season.
Dallas fell to a 107-89 defeat at home to Detroit before losing 135-86 in Oklahoma City, and the losing continued in their opening playoff game.
The Mavericks' skid reached three games as they were beaten 109-97 by the LA Clippers on Sunday.

LA enter this matchup looking to double their series lead before heading to Dallas for the next two games.
The Clippers finished the regular season with a 51-31 record, earning them fourth spot in the Western Conference and home advantage of this series.
They ended the regular season on a low note though, as they tasted defeat in each of their final three outings despite being at home for all of them.
LA went into that run on the back of a win in Phoenix, but they lost the immediate rematch with the Suns, 124-108, and then went on to lose to Utah, 110-109, and Houston, 116-105.
The Clippers managed to stop the rot in their opening playoff game though, as they drew first blood with a 109-97 victory over Dallas.
Verdict
LA took down Dallas in the opener, but we are expecting a much improved Mavericks performance here.
We expect more intensity and more help for Doncic and Irving, so we are taking the visitors and the points.
