Detroit ended their playoff drought this season by compiling a 44-38 record to finish sixth in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Pistons go into the postseason cold though, having lost six of their final eight regular season games.
They won three straight in late March, but ended the month with a 123-104 loss in Minnesota, and then began April with a 119-103 defeat to Oklahoma City.
Detroit rallied to win 117-105 in Toronto, but failed to build on that victory as they returned home to lose 109-103 to Memphis and 127-117 to Sacramento.
The Pistons then beat New York 115-106 at home, only to drop back-to-back meetings with Milwaukee, 125-119 at home and 140-133 in overtime on the road.
New York Knicks Form
New York secured their playoff berth by putting together a 51-31 record that earned them third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Knicks go into this game on the back of a victory, but having lost three of their previous four games.
They enjoyed a good run between late March and early April as they won five times in a six-game spell, only for their form to cool off with three straight defeats.
New York lost 119-117 in overtime when they hosted Boston, and then fell to a 115-106 defeat when they visited Detroit.
That was followed by a 108-102 home loss to Cleveland, but the Knicks did end the regular season on a positive note as they downed Brooklyn 113-105.

This series is expected to be a back-and-forth battle that needs seven games to determine a winner, and we are backing the Knicks to edge ahead.
