They took that streak to six games when they beat Michigan State in the quarter-finals of the Big Ten tournament, 67-62.
However, Purdue’s bid to win the conference tournament came to a shuddering halt when they lost 76-75 in overtime to Wisconsin.
Purdue’s response at March Madness has been an emphatic one, as they have followed up a 78-50 blowout of Grambling State with a 106-67 rout of Utah State.
Gonzaga Form
Gonzaga go into this big Sweet 16 showdown in good form, having now won 11 of their last 12 games.
The Bulldogs ended the regular season with an eight-game win streak in response to a surprise loss to Saint Mary’s (CA) on February 3.
They kept that run going in the semi-finals of the West Coast Conference tournament, beating San Francisco 89-77.
However, Gonzaga failed to make it 10-in-a-row in the final as they suffered another surprise defeat to Saint Mary’s (CA), this time losing 69-60.
The Bulldogs have bounced back in the national tournament though, following up an 86-65 win over McNeese State with an 89-68 success against Kansas.
Verdict
These two teams met in the regular season and Purdue took the bragging rights by double digits.
