That run was brought to a halt by a 33-21 defeat to Louisville, but they rebounded to win their next three games, including two SEC matchups on the road.
Clemson’s playoff hopes looked to be over when they then lost their regular season game, 17-14 to South Carolina, only for Miami to gift them a place in the ACC Championship hours later.
The Tigers took their chance too, as they held off a second-half fightback from SMU to win 34-31 thanks to a walk-off field goal.

Texas missed out on a first-round bye as they lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game last weekend.
The Longhorns opened the season with a string convincing wins, including a 31-12 victory when they visited defending national champions Michigan.
Their perfect start came to an end in their seventh outing however, as they were beaten 30-15 at home by Georgia.
Texas rebounded with five straight wins to secure a trip to the SEC Championship Game, setting up a rematch with the Bulldogs.
The Longhorns again came up short against the Dawgs though, as they suffered a 22-19 overtime defeat in the conference championship.
Verdict
Texas are the better team on paper, but they have not been the most reliable of spread bets.
Clemson’s solid defense and Quinn Ewers’ carelessness with the football could result in this being a close encounter that goes right down to the wire.
