They then went on to lose four of their next eight games to end their College Football Playoff hopes and heap major pressure on head coach Billy Napier.
Florida rallied late in the season though, saving Napier’s job with a couple of upset wins over ranked teams at home.
The Gators beat LSU 27-16 and Ole Miss 24-17, before wrapping up the regular season with a 31-11 victory over Florida State.

Tulane go into the Gasparilla Bowl having lost their last two games, including the AAC Championship Game.
The Green Wave opened the season with a shutout win, only to then drop back-to-back games against ranked non-conference opposition.
They turned around their form though, following up a non-conference win with seven straight American successes to put themselves on course for the conference championship.
Tulane wrapped up the regular season with a defeat though, as a 34-24 defeat to Memphis cost them a place in the rankings.
The Green Wave then lost the American Championship Game too, as they dug themselves into an early hole in a 35-14 defeat to Army.
Verdict
Billy Napier has seemingly saved his job with those upset wins over LSU and Ole Miss.
Florida are now expected to sign off on a positive note against a Tulane team who has given up a bunch of points in their last two losses and will start their backup QB.
