Los Angeles Chargers Form

Los Angeles closed out the regular season with back-to-back defeats as they finished with an 11-6 record.

The Chargers opened with three straight victories, only to then cool off between late September and the middle of October as they lost three times in four games.

They ended October on a positive note though, beating Minnesota 37-10, and they backed that up against Tennessee, 27-20, and Pittsburgh, 25-10.

Los Angeles went into the bye on the back of a 35-6 blowout loss at Jacksonville, but responded strongly after the restart as they beat Las Vegas 31-14 and Philadelphia 22-19.

The Chargers then made it four-in-a-row on the road as they beat Kansas City 16-13 and Dallas 34-17, but they failed to keep that run going as they wrapped up the regular season with a 20-16 loss to Houston and a 19-3 defeat in Denver.

New England Patriots Form

New England enter the playoffs as arguably the hottest team in the NFL, having won 13 of their last 14 games to finish 14-3.

The Patriots struggled early as they lost two of their first three games, but a 42-13 demolition of Carolina at the end of September kick-started this tremendous run.

They reeled off 10 consecutive victories before the bye week, including a 23-20 upset of division rivals Buffalo on the road.

New England then lost to the Bills when they returned from the bye week, 35-31, but that would prove to be their final defeat of the regular season.

The Patriots closed out that part of the campaign by following up road wins at Baltimore, 28-24, and the New York Jets, 42-10, with a home win over Miami, 38-10.

Verdict

Momentum is key heading into the playoffs, and New England have plenty of it.

They also have home advantage and get to face a patchwork Los Angeles offensive line, so we are siding with the Patriots on Wild Card Sunday.
